Our Pet of the Week is Adira!
Adira was rescued waaaaay back in November 2018.
Weighing in at a healthy 50 pounds today, she was less than half that weight when she was found on the side of the road, wasting away after being hit by a car.
This 2-year-old dog was so emaciated, so dehydrated, and so anemic that she needed two blood transfusions; she ate her feeding tube and then needed surgery to remove it.
The vet said her body temperature was so low that it was “not consistent with life.” The tissue on her tail was rotting, and her hip was broken, so she needed multiple surgeries to live a pain-free life.
After all that she had been through, Second Chance had to give her a name to live up to–they call her Adira, meaning “strength.”
Today, she is healthy, she is happy–and she is ready to go home!
Adira is great with other dogs, cats, and kids, and she truly is the perfect dog. She loves toys, treats, belly rubs, and, well, EVERYTHING that life has to offer!
