This week, we are featuring Jasper, who is a 4 year old Blue Tick Coon Hound, and he is about 54 pounds.
Jasper had been turned into a local, rural shelter and was one of their overlooked doggies. His time was running out.
Fortunately, the Second Chance Dog Program Manager has a soft spot for hound dogs – just look at those big brown eyes!
Jasper, like many dogs in the county shelters, was heartworm positive, but luckily, Second Chance has a “Heeling Hearts” program, which helps rescue heartworm positive dogs. He has received treatment for his heartworm and is ready to find his forever home.
True to his breed, Jasper is a goofy boy filled with lots of love. His favorite pastimes include: going for walks, sniffing things, counter surfing when no one is looking (or even when they are looking), eating all types of foods, and giving lots of kisses and snuggles!
He lives with a bunch of other dogs in his foster home, and he gets along with everyone except big, dominant male dogs. His foster mom has a 10 year old niece and a 12 year old nephew, and Jasper thinks they are really fun! Due to his size, he should probably avoid homes with small children.
Jasper can be a silly hound, so he’ll need patient adopters who are willing to work with him to help reinforce his good behaviors and continue to teach him about boundaries. Aside from needing to better his manners, Jasper is such a fun dog. Always up for an adventure, he loves going for walks/hikes. He also loves to spend time outside, hanging with his doggie friends. He is SUPER food motivated, so training for him should be easy.
Looking for a hound who is tall, dark and handsome? Maybe someone who is the outdoorsy type? Jasper could be the doggie for you!
