2 months in on the condo remodel, and what a wild ride it became!
First – I’ve taking to call my car the Pri-up (Prius slash pickup). I’ve gotten more than a few raised eyebrow looks at transporting 16 ft of molding in it (yes, it fit out the window and back hatch., and choose to do it early on a Sunday morning to avoid as much traffic as possible).
Then there was the flood I created when I hit a water supply pipe with a reciprocating saw in the bathroom, while gutting it down to the studs and rearranging the closets to make it truly a master bath.
If you’ve ever tackled a remodel, or even watched the home improvement TV shows, you know there will always be unforeseen issues that will present themselves. I knew that going in and even budget for a few. Timing different contractors to do projects and finding good ones has been the biggest challenge, and after a few failed attempts, I finally located some really good, honest, fair ones. Hit me up if you need a referral.
While I’m no stranger to the “fixer upper”, having done this sort of thing since buying the first house in ’99 All in all, this has been the biggest project I’ve even committed to. BUT it’s really coming together! AND it will be done right, and all mine, even if it’s taking longer than anticipated, it will be all worth it.
Best advice I can give is (stolen from the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles song) SHOP AROUND!
I found the perfect kitchen chairs to go with the repurposed $25 thrift store table, but they were $200 a piece, too rich for my blood, but then stumbled on to the exact same ones for $68 EACH! Same thing happened with the sofa, found the perfect thing for $1,300, and then found another place selling the exact same one for $599-it’s always worth the time spent searching out the deal.
