Stores that will close or adjust hours on Election Day

The U.S. Presidential Election is November 3 and millions of people will be casting their final votes for Election Day. Read on to find out which retailers will have different business hours!

  • adidas
    • On November 3, all stores will be closed until 1 p.m. to enable staff to vote.
  • Away
    • This popular luggage retailer announced that its 10 U.S. locations would close on Election Day. All of their corporate and retail employees will have a full day of paid time off so they can vote.
  • Ben & Jerry’s
    • Ben & Jerry’s is closing all company-owned and operated facilities on November 3 to give employees time to vote. The ice cream chain is also giving free waffle cone upgrades to “people who pledge to vote for justice.”
  • Best Buy

    • For Election Day, Best Buy is shortening its hours. Their stores will open at noon so store employees have the time they need to vote. This decision affects all Best Buy retail stores and services, field offices, and their corporate campus.
  • J.Crew & Madewell
    • The J. Crew Group, who owns both J.Crew and Madewell, will be closing all stores, corporate offices, distribution, and customer service centers on November 3 so their employees have time to vote.
  • Patagonia
    • Patagonia is known for being politically active and has a portion of its website dedicated to educating American voters on the importance of electing climate leaders. The clothing retailer has long been a proponent of closing its stores and distribution centers as a way to encourage their customers, employees, and citizens to vote.
  • Shake Shack
    • Shake Shack is giving workers three hours of paid time off to vote and eight hours of paid time off if they work the polls. The burger chain also gave away free fries on its app on the first-ever Vote Early Day on October 24.
  • Vineyard Vines
    • Vineyard Vines is giving all its employees three hours of paid time off on Election Day. In a press release, their CEO expressed that voting is important to the company, and they want to ensure their employees feel empowered to let their voices be heard on November 3. Store hours will be shortened and vary by location.
  • White Castle
    • The popular burger chain is closing all restaurants from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on November 3, so that employees can vote. White Castle employees as well as employees in the home office and manufacturing plants will be given all four hours of paid time off.

Other Election Closures

  • To prepare for possible unrest after the election results are announced, some cities are taking precautionary measures and closing certain streets.
